A systematic fraud operation targeting BTS fans has defrauded thousands of fans across the UK, with losses totalling millions of pounds. The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that organised crime rings are responsible for the scams, which involve fake ticket sales for the K-pop group's highly anticipated tour. Detective Superintendent Mark Richards stated that the fraud is 'industrial in scale' and urged fans to use only official platforms.
Victims report being lured by convincing replica websites and social media ads. The police are collaborating with ticketing platforms and banks to trace the funds, but recovery is unlikely. This incident highlights the growing intersection of cultural demand and cybercrime.
