Four-time Formula One world champion Alain Prost has been assaulted by a masked gang during a raid on his property in the south of France, according to local authorities. The attack occurred late on Tuesday evening at his residence in Var, near Saint-Tropez. Prost, 69, was reportedly struck by one of the intruders before the group fled with jewellery and other valuables.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries and did not require hospitalisation. French police have launched an investigation into the armed robbery, which is believed to have been orchestrated by a highly organised criminal cell. British motorsport leaders, including the president of the FIA and the CEO of Formula One Management, have issued statements of condemnation and support for Prost.
The FIA described the assault as “a despicable act of violence against one of our sport’s greatest ambassadors.” Prost, who won world titles in 1985, 1986, 1989, and 1993, remains a prominent figure in motorsport as a consultant and ambassador for the Alpine F1 team. The incident has sent shockwaves through the international racing community, which is already grappling with security concerns following a series of high-profile thefts targeting sports personalities.
Prost’s family has requested privacy while authorities pursue their inquiries.
