Kyle Busch, the two-time Nascar Cup Series champion and one of the most dominant figures in stock car racing, died on Wednesday at a hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina, due to complications from pneumonia. He was 39. The news was confirmed by his team, Joe Gibbs Racing, in a statement that described him as a fierce competitor and a devoted family man.
Busch, who won the Nascar Cup Series titles in 2015 and 2019, had been hospitalised for respiratory issues earlier this week. His condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to his death. The British racing community, which had forged close ties with Busch through his participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and other international events, expressed profound sorrow.
Sir Lewis Hamilton called Busch a giant of motorsport. Busch is survived by his wife, Samantha, and two children.
