A senior British intelligence source has provided a grim reading of Donald Trump’s Iran strategy, suggesting the former president’s seemingly contradictory moves may be a calculated play rather than a simple flip flop. The source, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, said Trump’s approach reflects a deliberate pattern of destabilisation aimed at forcing Tehran to the brink. Documents obtained by this newsroom indicate that Trump’s team considered multiple scenarios, including a full withdrawal from the JCPOA followed by a maximum pressure campaign, then a sudden offer of talks.
The intelligence assessment warns that such tactics risk driving Iran towards nuclear breakout while leaving allies scrambling. “He wants to create chaos so he can claim credit for resolving it, but the cost is already being paid in regional stability,” the source said. The analysis comes as reports emerge of increased Iranian missile activity and covert meetings between US and Iranian intermediaries in Oman.
Critics argue the strategy is reckless amateurism, but the intelligence chief’s view suggests a cold, calculated gamble that could backfire spectacularly.
